The city was dark when Kaylin came back. Dark houses watched as she made her way down the dirt path. When she reached her house a flickering light could be seen faintly through the vine covered window. She hesitated at the door.

She watched the dancing light for a few moments. How could she ever face them again? Without her voice, she'd just be part of the living creature that housed her, as silent as it was. The woods were blanketed in a velvety darkness. A few stars dotted the sky, and a silver crescent moon offered a dim light to see by. A small river wound its way through the mass of trees and over a few overhanging rocks before gently flowing into the calm pool below. Small white flowers grew along the edge of the water. The iridescent petals only showed themselves by the light of the moon.

Brightly colored canopies lined the road, covering hundreds of wooden carts, each one tended by an equally brightly dressed trader. Each cart held a different sort of thing. There were carts with fine clothes, some with lesser clothing. There were carts with pies, meats, and vegetables, their delicious aromas saturating the air.
